HISTORY:Our Lady of Peace Parish and School

A brief history of the parcel of land condensed from the ABSTRACT OF TITLE:

County of Franklin, in the State of Ohio and in the Township of Clinton
NE corner of Thomas O. Phinny farm: beginning at a stake in the East line of the Turnpike and leading from Columbus to Sandusky and in the Northwest corner of the Thomas O. Phinney Farm; thence S. 861/2 degrees East 7.07 chains to a stake; thence South 31/4 degrees West 7.07 chains to a stake; thence North 861/2 degrees West 7.07 chains to a stake in the East line of said Turnpike Road; thence North 3/14 degrees East along the East side of said road to the beginning, containing 5 acres of land and being part of the Thos. O. Phinney Farm in Clinton Township. The premises under consideration form a part of quarter Township No. 2, Township No.1, Range 18, United States Military Lands…Said Township No. 1…marked…in pursuance of an act of Congress entitled “An Act regulating the grants of land appropriated for military services and for the Society of the United Brethren for propagating the gospel among the Heathen.,”…approved Jun3 1, 1796…11th day of February, 1800, there is granted unto…John Rathbone a certain tract… United States Military Land containing 4000 acres. January 12, 1813 title changes hand from John and Mary (his wife) Rathbone to Dan Case…after his death in 1817 the land started being broken up in smaller parcels and being sold, until in March 1855 the parcel now belonging to Our Lady of Peace Parish was part of a parcel sold to Ansel Phinney and was known as the Phinney Farm.
The parcel that was purchased by the Diocese of Columbus for Our Lady of Peace Parish was still known as the Phinney Farm at the time of purchase in January 1946.

As for the parish athletic or sports field just north of the parish parking lot: it was sold by Mary T. Phinney (wife of Ansel) and her son Thomas O. Phinney to Jennie Dunkely in August 1912. March 1923 Jennie Dunkley and her husband Robert J. Dunkley sold it to the Columbus Hot House Company. It went into receivership November 1926. It was sold to Asbury L. Grove in May 1931, and in May 1933 it was sold by Asbury L. Grove and his wife Sadie E. Grove to Winaday Greenhouse and Construction Company. Some time before 1944 it became the property of Margaret J. Bulen.
12/12/44: land located at 4546 N. High Street title transferred from Margaret J. Bulen to Nicola (Nick), Marie (Nick’s wife), Pasquale, and Vienna (Pasquale’s wife) DeSantis
8/1/1954: Pasquale and Vienna DeSandis sold out their share to his brother Nicola (Nick) and his wife Marie DeSantis.
5/11/64: Nicola (Nick) and wife Marie E. DeSantis sold some of the land to James G. Richardson.
6/11/72: Nicola (Nick) DeSantis died and wife Marie Ellen DeSantis appointed executrix in will dated 2/24/71. She resided at 90 DeSantis Dr. All property went to her, with exception of 4546 went to Nick’s brothers Pasquale and Louis DeSantis.
October 27, 1994 Diocese of Columbus purchased this parcel of land for $140,000 and it is now an athletic/sports field used by the parish after school, and by the school during the day.
