October is Respect Life Month---
The Catholic Church has long held October to be the month in which we prayerfully celebrate our firm belief that all human life is sacred. The Diocesan Marriage and Family Life Office reminds you that, as Pope John Paul II wrote in his 1995 Encyclical "The Gospel of Life,"
The family proclaims life when parents teach children to communicate openly, to value all life and to fulfill their God-given mission.
The family celebrates life through prayers, thanking God for the gift of life, and for each other.
The family serves life by promoting the welfare and well-being of its own members and the members of the greater "family of life."

At Mass this past weekend, we were informed of new rules regarding provisions that all
employee health plans must provide, including churches. The Bishop has requested "that
we must commit ourselves to prayer and fasting that wisdom and justice may prevail, and
religious liberty may be restored." Additionally, he has recommended that we visit
www.usccb.org/conscience to learn more about this severe assault on religious liberty
and how to contact Congress in support of legislation that would reverse the Administration's
decision.

The U.S. Catholic Bishops called for "A Fortnight for Freedom," the two-week period from June 21 to July 4---beginning with the feasts of St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher and ending with Independence Day---to focus "all the energies the Catholic community can muster" for religious liberty.
