Monthly Fact---The recent Knight of Columbus-Marist Poll found that 79% of Americans say that they would not allow abortion after the first three months of pregnancy. "Almost four decades after the Supreme Court's decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, which resulted in the almost totally unrestricted abortion regime of today, these decisions continue to be out of step with the vast majority of Americans," said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson.

Knights District Free Throw Competition---The OLP Knights will be hosting the Knight's District Free Throw Competition on Saturday, February 11, at 7:00 p.m., in the OLP gym. This is the first time we have hosted the district competition and will be welcoming the free-throw winners from OLP, Immaculate Conception, St. Michael and St. Patrick. Winners will advance to the regional competition held at Bishop Ready High School on March 3rd.

Knights Soup Supper---on Tuesday, February 28, the Knights will be the parish organization providing the Soup Supper following the 5:30 p.m. Mass. Please stay after Mass and enjoy our various offerings.

Monthly Fact---In recognition of the Knights of Columbus' near century of service and dedication
to the people of Rome, the City of Rome began construction December 6 on a square in the
Catholic fraternal organization's honor. The groundbreaking ceremony on the "Largo Cavalieri di
Colombo" took place at 1:00 p.m.  Mayor Giovanni Alemanno of Rome officiated, and other
dignitaries, including Supreme Knight Carl Anderson, attended.

That Man Is You!---The second 13-week series of That Man is You! began Saturday, January 14
at 6:30 a.m,. in the Gathering Space. If you missed signing up for the first 13-week series, please
try to attend this session; you will not be sorry. This program is a great faith builder for men. To

Monthly Fact---The Knights of Columbus will establish a shrine to Blessed John Paul II in Washington, D.C. In addition to the shrine itself, the preliminary plans for the site include exhibits on the life and legacy of Blessed John Paul II, and an exhibit on the Catholic heritage of North America.

Keep Christ in Christmas---Do you wish to make a statement about the efforts to remove Christ from the season of Christmas? The OLP Knights are offering  magnets proclaiming Keep Christ in Christmas. These magnets are available in the Gathering Space. A suggested donation is $3.00 each, or two for $5.00. The magnets can be used in your home, office, or your car.

Free Throw Contest---The OLP Knights will be conducting their annual Free Throw Competition. Always an exciting event as we select free throw shooters to represent OLP in the K of C District and State Competitions. The competition is open to all boys and girls age 9 to 12 years. Local winners in each age category will receive prizes and move on to the next level of competition. The OLP Competition will be held on the first Satuday in January. Andy Huck and Randy Etter will be coordinating the event again this year. If you would like to register a child for the event, please contact Andy Huck at ahuck@insight.rr.com.

Monthly Fact---In 2003, the Knights of Columbus began participating in the Global Wheelchair Mission and sponsored 2,000 wheelchairs to be distributed in Afghanistand. Since then, Knights in the U.S. and Canada have sponsored the distribution of some 20,000 wheelchairs in Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatamala, Jordan, Mexico, Morocco, Oman, Panama, the Philippines, Poland, and the United States.

Knights Raffle---The raffle drawing was held at the October 15th Pasta Dinner. The winners of the prizes were as follows: Mary King---46"color TV: Janet Lucius---dinner for four at the Polaris Hilton; Bill Mattes---$100.00 cash; and Sylvia Load---$50.00 cash prize. Congratulations to our prize winners and thank you to all who purchased tickets.

Operation Buckeye---The OLP Knights, in cooperation with the OLP Parish Hospitality Committee, will be collecting items for Operation Buckeye. This is a program with the purpose of sending boxes to our troops overseas as a way to thank them for their efforts and to bring them a touch of home. The collection will be held in the Gathering Space before and after all Masses on the weekends of November 5th and 6th, and November 12th and 13th. Your support is always appreciated.

On behalf of the OLP Knights of Columbus, we welcome back our Chaplain and Pastor, Father Kavanagh.

The Pennies for Heaven Collection
the last weekend in September totaled $778.15. The money goes to Seminarians and is gratefully appreciated.

What are you doing Saturday night? Don't forget that a Family Spaghetti Dinner will be held on Saturday, October 15th after the 4:00 p.m. Mass, in the School Cafeteria. The dinner will be prepared by Carfagna's Kitchen. The cost will be $8.00 for adults, $6.00 for Seniors, $6.00 for children; $24.00 for a family of four, and $30 for a family of six. All are welcome.

Raffle Tickets---There are still tickets available. First prize is a 46 inch Sanyo TV, second prize is dinner for 4 at the Polaris Hilton; third prize is $100.00; and fourth prize is $50.00. Tickets are only $5.00 each and are available from any member of the OLP Knights or in the Gather Space after all Masses. Tickets are going fast.; get yours before they are gone. The drawing will be held at the spaghetti dinner---you need not be present to win.

A Membership Open House will be held on Tuesday evening, October 18, at 7:00 in the Gathering Space for anyone wishing to join the award-winning OLP Knights of Columbus Council. Come and enjoy some refreshments, hear about the Knights and meet many of our current members. Any male above the age of 18 who is a practicing Catholic committed to making their community a better place while supporting their Church is welcome and encouraged to join.

Knights at the Movies:
The OLP Knights of Columbus are sponsoring discounted tickets to the movie Courageous. This film follows the journey of four police officers, their faith and their roles as fathers. Response to the film has been overwhelmingly positive and stresses the importance of fathers in the lives of their families. Along with being uplifting, it is humorous and full of action! The special discounted tickets are available for the 7:00 p.m. showing only at the Marcus Crosswoods Theater on Wednesday, October 5th and may be purchased that evening at the theater's box office.

Chad Ogden and Joe Yonadi present Sharie Andrus, Director of Columbus Special Olympics
with a check for $2,200 collected through the OLP Knights May 2011 Measure Up Campaign. This donation went toward the purchase of medals for the Special Olympics.

Monthly Fact: At the recent National Convention in Denver, the OLP Council was awarded the Star Council Award for having met or exceeded its goals for the 2010-2011 fraternal year. This is the third time the OLP Council has been recognized with this prestigious national award.

Upcoming Events
The OLP Knights are sponsoring a new religious study program for men of the parish. The program is called That Man Is You. The program will be facilitated by Deacon Fortkamp and will consist of two 13-week sessions beginning Saturday morning, September 17. Registration is recommended. For more details please see the information table in the Gathering Space, or you can contact Ed Price at pricee@yahoo.com or 459-2766.

The OLP Knights will be collecting after all Masses on September 24th and 25th for the benefit of Pennies for Heaven to support priestly vocations. This program provides money to our seminarians to help support their educational expenses. Help us fill the jug for priestly vocations---your pennies, dimes and dollars are gratefully appreciated.

On Sunday, September 25th after all Masses the OLP Knights will provide coffee and donuts to the parish outside the Gathering Space. Stop and enjoy a donut and a cup of coffee.

Monthly Fact---Last year, the Knights of Columbus (global community) donated more than $151 million to charitable projects. Also, Knights volunteered more than 69 million hours of their time to charitable causes. Cumulative figures show that during the past decade the Knights of Columbus  has donated more than $1.4 billion to charity, and provided nearly 640 million hours of support of charitable initiatives.
 
Upcoming Events---The Our Lady of Peace Knights will be hosting a Family Pasta Dinner at OLP for all parishioners this fall. We are planning to have it catered by a local restaurant and there will be a major raffle drawing held in conjunction with the dinner. Stay tuned---more details will be forthcoming. A special night at the movies is also being planned for October, featuring the faith-based film Courageous.
In November, the Knights will again be supporting our troops with the return of Operation Buckeye. Please start assembling those care package items now!

Monthly Fact---"Everyone Welcome, Everything Free" was the motto of the Knights of Columbus
clubhouses which sprung up in military camps in Europe during World War I. Manned by K of C
secretaries who were affectionately known as "Caseys," the clubhouses provided recreation,
donuts and a few of the amenities of home to any serviceman regardless of race or religion.

As we have in past years, the OLP Knights will be operating the Casino tent at the Parish Festival. Please stop by and say hello. We are also lookign for Texas Hold'em dealers; you do not need to be
a member of the Knights to participate. If you can volunteer, please contact Mike Lang at 267-2907.

The OLP Council picked up two awards at the recent Ohio State Convention. The first was for Council
Excellence---only 123 councils received this award out of 350 councils in the state. The second award was for our Pennies for Heaven collection for Priestly Vocations---the OLP Council finished third in the state out of 350 councils.

     Monthly Fact: In 1953, the Knights of Columbus began a campaign to add the words "under God" to the Pledge of Allegiance. President Eisenhower signed the bill into law that changed the Pledge of Allegiance on Flag Day, June 14, 1954.
     The OLP Knights will be providing coffee, juice and donuts to the parish after every Mass on Sunday, June 5.
     Thanks to everyone who stopped by Henderson and High for the Measure Up collection in May. The Knights raised over $2,000.00 for the Columbus Special Olympics.

     Monthly Fact: The Knights of Columbus was founded in 1882 by Venerable Father Michael McGivney at St. Mary's Church in New Haven, Connecticut.
     The OLP Knights will be collecting for their MEASURE UP CAMPAIGN which will benefit those with developmental disabilities and the Columbus Special Olympics. The Knights will be collecting at the intersection of Henderson and High Streets on Saturday, May 7. Look for us!
