“deanery: A subdivision of a diocese, consisting of a number of parishes, over which presides a dean appointed by a bishop. The duty of the dean is to watch over the clergy of the deanery, to see that they fulfill the orders of the bishop, and observe the liturgical and canon laws. He summons the conference of the deanery and presides at it. Periodically he makes a report to the bishop on conditions in the deanery.” From Fr. John Hardon’s Modern Catholic Dictionary as found at http://www.catholicreference.net/index.cfm?id=32961
In the Diocese of Columbus, two lay people from each parish join with their parish priest to represent their church on one of the thirteen deanery councils. Our Lady of Peace Parish is a member of the North High Deanery.
WHO WE ARE/ WHAT WE DO:
The North High Deanery is composed of representatives from the following churches geographically all found on, or close to Columbus’ North High Street: Holy Name, Immaculate Conception, Our Lady of Peace, Parroquia Santa Cruz, Sacred Heart, St. Francis of Assisi, St. John the Baptist, St. Michael, and St. Thomas More Newman Center on the campus of the Ohio State University. The current Chairperson of the North High Deanery is Raychel Namiotka of St. Michael Parish.
The aim is to provide a greater sense of community between the Parishes within the North High Deanery and between the North High Deanery and other deaneries in the Diocese of Columbus.
The representatives meet the third Monday every other month September through May to share and discuss issues and events from their parishes. Location of meetings rotate through the Deanery Parishes.
Current OLP Goals include:
1) To increase the working relationships among the nine (9) parishes that
make-up the North High Deanery
2) To update the North High Deanery parish information flyer for 2013 which is
distributed to local hotels, motels, and bed/breakfast inns in our geographic area.
