KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
OUR LADY OF PEACE COUNCIL  #14282  

INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND:
Father Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus. He was ordained December 22, 1877. In 1881 Fr. McGivney saw many of his poor parishioners in New Haven, Connecticut were left with nothing due to an untimely death or disability in the family. In 1882 Father McGivney convened the first council meeting of the Knights of Columbus. His goal was to help the members and their families. Fr. McGivney died August 14, 1890 at the age of thirty-eight. Today, Father McGivney has been conferred the title of Venerable Servant of God by the Vatican as the first step in the process of his canonization. The organization he founded now has over 1.7 million members and over 13,000 councils worldwide. Please consider joining us in service to the Our Lady of Peace Parish community.

WHO WE ARE/WHAT WE DO:
The Knights are Catholic men, 18 years of age or older, who are committed to making their community a better place, while supporting their Church. The founding principles are Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism.

The Our Lady of Peace Knights of Columbus Council #14282 is a men's organization centered on prayer and fraternity among its members. The Knights of Columbus is also an organization that prides itself in serving, helping, and supporting Our Lady of Peace parish and the local community. The Knights of Columbus join men together for a common cause focused on our Catholic faith and in solidarity with our bishop and priests.

The Our Lady of Peace Council was founded in 2007 and has already received numerous awards and recognition from the state and national Knights organizations. In its first year of operation the Council received the prestigious Star Council Award for achieving its program goals.

In the summer of 2011 Grand Knight Joe Yonadi and Deputy Grand Knight Bob Brehm
accept the Double Star Council Award from District Deputy Knight Chris Damo.

ACTIVITIES:
       New in 2011: Sponsoring "That Man Is You" program. Kick-off Saturday, September 17.

• Coffee and donuts after Mass
• Friday night Pasta dinners in March during Lent
• Fund raising for the OLP 8th grade class trip
• Annual Free-Throw Contest for boys and girls in 4th to 8th grades
• Casino nights to benefit the parish and parish festival
• Provide funding for pro-life mailings for parish to protest the Freedom of Choice Act
• Annually assist OLP St. Vincent De Paul Society with clothing collection and delivery of items to St. Francis Mission in McArthur, Ohio
• Raise funds in support of those with developmental disabilities and the Columbus Special Olympics through K of C Measure Up campaign
