Q. When is the Sacrament of Reconciliation offered?
A. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is on Saturdays at 3:30 and by special appointment. Call the Church Office at 614-263-8824. Special Penance services are also scheduled during Advent and Lent.
Q. To whom do I communicate something I want in the parish bulletin?
A. You may email bulletin news items to k[email protected]. The deadline is Monday at 12:00 noon for an item to appear the following Sunday.
Q. How do we get a family member on a list to have home visits or to receive Holy Communion?
A. To schedule home visits or to receive Holy Communion at home please call the Church Office at 614-263-8824.
Q. How do we register as new members of the parish?
A. Those wishing to move their membership and become parishioners at Our Lady of Peace should register by calling the Church Office at 614-263-8824, or you may complete an online registration form here.
Q.Will my weekly offering go back to my parish if I attend Mass at a different parish and submit my envelope?
A. On occasion envelopes are received in the mail from parishes who received it in their Sunday collection. Financial support of your parish is part of being a good steward. The best thing to do is increase your giving to your home parish before or after your absence, or to participate in the electronic giving option the church has made available. If you wish to start giving electronically, you may complete an Electronic Giving Authorization Form, and submit it to the Church Office.
Q: How do I schedule a baptism or wedding?
A. Please see the Sacrament of Baptism or Matrimony page for information.
Q: If I'm Catholic and in attendance at a non-Catholic service, may I receive Communion? Or, if I am a non-Catholic, may I receive the Eucharist at a Catholic Mass?
A. The answer to both questions is "No." Only an ordained bishop or priest can preside at Mass and confect the Eucharist, bringing about the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. Part of the Catholic belief is that the celebration and reception of Holy Communion is the manifestation of that common belief and unity in the faith. Receiving communion at a non-Catholic service would create a false sense of unity in belief, faith, and practice. Likewise, were non-Catholics to participate in Holy Communion at a Catholic Mass they violate the unity of belief, faith, worship, and governance professed by the congregation.
Q: Can a divorced Catholic still receive the sacrament of communion?
A. Divorce does not prohibit a person from receiving communion. However, if a divorced person remarries prior to having a declaration of Nullity from the Catholic Church, he or she cannot receive the sacraments.
Q: What is the Catholic Church's stance on cremation?
A. The practice of burying the body of the deceased in a grave or tomb is encouraged as a sign of Christian faith. However, cremation is not forbidden.
Q: In Baptism (child or adult) may one of the godparents be a non-Catholic? Does the same apply for Confirmation (child or adult) Sponsors?
A. Canon Law (874; 1983) states a Godparent (sponsor) needs to be a Catholic: one who has been confirmed, has made his/her First Communion, and is a practicing member of the Catholic Church. Understandably the Church can not ask a non-Catholic to promise the faith care and religious educational development of a child/adult in a religion in which he/she does not believe.
Q: It is permissible for a member of another Church to be present as a witness of the Baptism.
A. This would be in addition to the Catholic sponsor. Confirmation Sponsors (child or adult) also benefit and need the spiritual help of a Sponsor. This person must be an active, fully initiated and practicing member of the Catholic Church and over 16 years of age.
Q: I know someone who is interested in finding out more about the Catholic Church and possibly becoming a Catholic, who at the church should he/she contact?
A. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which adults learn more about the Catholic faith and ask questions. Classes meet weekly during the school year beginning in September. The process is designed to help people discern their readiness to embrace a path of faith within the Roman Catholic Church. If you, or someone you know is interested, or would like more information, visit the RCIA page of this website, or call the Church Office at 614-263-8824.
Q: I've been away for a while, can I come back to the Church?
A. Yes, absolutely. The Church welcomes you back! There are countless reasons people fall away from actively living and practicing their faith. If you are ready to come back, we welcome you. If you would like to talk to someone call the Church Office 614.263.8824 to schedule time with the Pastor, Fr. Sean Dooley, or our Deacon, Reverend Jeffrey Fortkamp.
You might also consider attending the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) weekly classes held during the school year. This would provide for you a review of Church history, beliefs, liturgy, traditions and customs, and might help you further discern your readiness to return to the Church.
